Misty Copeland

MUSE OF THE MONTH

Artwork by Baé

“They will see a brown ballerina and think ‘Oh that’s what a ballerina looks like.’ When you can imagine yourself on the stage, especially as a young person, it allows you to dream of doing anything.” Commemorating
#blackhistorymonth , our muse of the month is Misty Copeland.

Being the first black principal dancer at American Ballet Theater, she not only fascinates the audience with exceptional moves, but brings ballet to new audiences and changes its image. In the world of classical ballet where only few women of color exist, she takes on the mantle of role model.
