Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for the education of women and children, is 2020’s last #MuseoftheMonth.

Under Taliban control, girls in Pakistan were banned from going to school and Yousafzai was no exception. Frustrated, she began to speak out and advocate the right for female education. This made her a target. The Taliban issued a death threat against Yousafzai, leading to a shooting attack that had her remove a part of her skull.

Despite the life-threatening incident, Yousafzai had no intention to lower her voice. In recognition of her actions, she became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 at the age of 17. Her ‘Malala Fund’ works to build schools and raise awareness for the 130 million girls who are out of school today.
